So you have finished setting up your favorite netgear router and are all set to take strides in waves of the high speed internet signals? Well, just setting up the wire connections won’t do the thing. You need to be logged in to the router to be able to access the internet.

Facing issues with logging in to your netgear router? Worry not! We have got something to help you out in this case.

This NETGEAR router login guide will allow you to complete the login and security process of your wireless network through your phone, your desktop or the tablet.

Scroll down to access the complete step-by-step netgear router login guide.

Things you would need: Your electronic device like your phone, tablet or your computer and your Netgear router.

Connecting to the Network

Just in case, you aren’t connected to your wireless network, establish a connection using an ethernet or CAT5 cable. Launch the web browser on your device and enter http://www.routerlogin.net or, use http://www.routerlogin.com. The login page will appear in a few seconds.

In case, you do not see the login page, try entering the default Netgear router login IPs: http://192.168.1.1 or, you can also use http://192.168.0.1.

It might also happen that your browser warns about the connection not being secure. Acknowledge the warning signal and move to the router login screen anyways.

Default ID and Password not working? Forgot your router’s security key? Not to worry! You can factory reset your Netgear Router.

On the rear side of your Netgear Router is the reset button. You can use a pen or a thin object to press and hold the same till the time all the lights on the router start blinking. Once they do, release the button and wait for the router to restart itself.

If you have the Netgear Ready NAS or a fully managed switch, the default password will be “netgear1” or the filed is kept blank. However, the cases happen unlikely.

Completing the Process

Entering the credentials would log you in to the router admin panel.

Troubleshooting Wireless Access Point Connections

Some routers allow them to be configured as a wireless access point network so the range could be extended. Your router will then behave as a simple wireless gateway to provide a wireless connection. Once it becomes an access point, the basic router functions such as port forwarding and DHCP server will be lost.

Steps to Configure Your Netgear Router as An Access Point

  • Connect your computer to the Netgear Access Point router and launch the web browser.
  • Visit routerlogin.com or routerlogin.net login page or simply use the IPs: http://192.168.1.1 or, you can also use http://192.168.0.1.
  • Once you visit the page, you’ll be prompted to enter the username and the password. You can use the above listed default router login guide or simply the following: Username: admin, Password: password.
  • Instances when you forget your password and cannot recall the same, you can use the factory reset option to restore the default settings and password.
  • The Netgear home genie app will appear.
  • Click on the Advanced tab on top of the screen. On the left side of screen under the WPS wizard click on Advanced Setup option. Select the Wireless Settings option.
  • Now scroll down to the AP mode section to check the box adjacent to Enable AP mode.
  • The access point IP address and the DNS server addresses are configured to be set dynamically by the DHCP server or through the main router of your network. Therefore, you can choose to leave the settings as it is or set the addresses manually as well.
  • If you wish to set a static IP on the access point, uncheck the box next to the “Get IP Address Dynamically” button.
  • Fill out the IP address, IP subnet mask and the gateway addresses. If you wish to avoid IP conflicts, make sure you don’t use an IP that is not assigned to the clients on the main router.
  • Click on the “Apply” option. At this point you’ll lose the connection between your router and the computer.
  • Connect one end of the ethernet cable to WAN or LAN ports of your Netgear router (for configuring as an AP) and the other end to a LAN port on your main router.
  • The Netgear router is now set up for Access point mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

The default address to access the login page of your router is 192.168.1.1. Also, this address remains the same for a majority of routers.

The user credentials that are required to login to the management wizard are mentioned in the user manual and also on the back side of your router device. Alternatively, you can use the default credentials discussed above.

In order to update the firmware on your Netgear Router, you need to visit the smart wizard and check for any updates to the current firmware version. If available, you can follow the instructions that get prompted on the update page.

You can change the default credentials using the guide discussed in this page above. Refer to the “Additional Features of the Netgear Genie App” section above.

You might be using an outdated browser version. Try removing the cache and cookie files. If the page still doesn’t work, check for the VPN connections or active proxy settings with your PC. If you are still not able to access the pages try entering the address 192.168.1.1 manually. If you have tried everything and the router login portal still doesn’t work, turn the antivirus firewall off and then try.

This one is one of the major issues while dealing with Netgear routers. Follow these steps if you encounter the same:
  • If the internet light on your Netgear router does not switch on, go to your MODEM and check whether it is working well or not. It should always be turned ON.
  • Ensure that the Ethernet cable is connected properly with both the router and the MODEM. If the light on your router is still not visible, you can reset the router. After the reset operation is completed, you can reconfigure it successfully and resume with your work.

Follow the below instructions to reset your Netgear Router.

  • Find the Reset button of your router. This button is usually present at the rear end.
  • Use a thin object to press and hold this button for about 10 seconds. You will notice the router lights going on and off. This is when you need to release the button.
  • After about ten seconds, the router lights will become stable and the power light would turn green or white (depending upon the Netgear Router Model you have).
  • This occurrence signifies you have successfully reset your router.
