If you have not yet downloaded the app, visit nighthawk-app.com to download the same. Once you are done, follow the steps:

  • Connect the device you are using to your router’s wifi network.
  • Open the Nighthawk app and enter the username and password if prompted.
  • Once you are logged in a dashboard will appear.
  • Select the image of the router containing the image of your router.
  • On the Router Settings page, scroll down and tap Check for updates.
  • If an update is available, tap update.
  • Once you click on the Update button, avoid going online, or turning the router off, or anything until the router restarts. Once the Netgear nighthawk firmware update is completed, your router will automatically restart to run with even-more efficiency.

Updating Manually

There may be chances you wish to download a specific firmware version or otherwise. If so, follow the instructions:

  • Use an Ethernet cable to connect the router to your computer.
  • Open the web browser and visit the official Netgear support page.
  • Once the page opens, enter your router details like the router model number and the product name.
  • Click on the downloads button.
  • Select the firmware version you wish to download and click on the Download button.
  • In some cases, a compressed .zip extension file gets downloaded. If so, you’ll need to unzip the same.

  • Once done, open your browser and enter routerlogin.net to open the login page.
  • Enter the router credentials like the admin username and password.
  • Now, select Advanced> Admin or Settings> Administration
  • Select Firmware update or Router update, whatsoever is being displayed.
  • Click on Choose file or Browse to locate the firmware file that is with a .img or .chk extension.
  • Click on the upload button.
  • Once you click on the Update button, avoid going online, or turning the router off, or anything until the router restarts. Once the Netgear nighthawk firmware update is completed in about two minutes, your router will automatically restart to run with even-more efficiency.
